Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia Thursday, August 29, 2024 led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the leadership of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.
The aim of the visit was to strengthen collaboration to ensure sustainable development for the good people of Benue State.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Alia expressed the sincere appreciation of Benue State Government for the unwavering support of USAID and discussed how they could further strengthen their collaboration to achieve greater outcomes.
“the partnership between USAID and our state has been nothing short of transformative, contributing significantly to the progress and development we witness today” the Governor added.
He outlined several areas where his administration seeks continued support from USAID.
Some of the areas he mentioned include renewable energy and solarization of health facilities in Benue State; as well as technical assistance to ensure that Benue health centres are equipped with sustainable clean, energy solutions.
He also sought to partner USAID on projects that promote climate resilience, sustainable agricultural practices, and reforestation.
Governor Alia revealed the plan of his administration to establish agro hubs with the aim to boosting food production, creating jobs and improving livelihoods.
Also, in his remark, the Director General, Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, Aondoaseer Leonard-Angelo Viashima emphasized the significance of the engagement as part of the government’s broader efforts to rebuild global partnerships.
He said, “this meeting is a crucial step in repositioning Benue State as a prime location for business and social interventions. We are committed to ensuring the judicious use of funds with robust accountability mechanisms in place,”
Jason Taylor, Deputy Mission Director of USAID Nigeria, who received the Governor, reiterated the agency’s dedication to continuing its support for Benue State.
He stated, “USAID remains committed to working with Governor Alia and his administration to ensure that our joint efforts lead to the best possible outcomes for the people of Benue.
The visit underscored Governor Alia’s commitment to fostering an environment that supports strategic partnership for growth and development.
